In one of its latest announcements on January 19, the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation declared that once again the New Brunswick casino will suspend its services due to the mandatory measures taken by the provincial government. Starting from January 19, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. the casino can no longer be attended by any guests and with no re-opening date for the near future.

The Great Canadian Gaming Corporation was founded back in 1982 and it is based in Ontario and there are 26 gaming facilities under its jurisdiction, located in Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. The company is the biggest gambling operator in Canada and it takes pride in supporting over 1,400 charitable and non-profit organizations.

Open or Closed

Last year Casino New Brunswick suspended all operations all the way back in March with the start of the first lockdown. We jump in all the way to September 28, 2020, when the casino was given the green light to open with mandatory health measures for all guests and limited capacity. Then on October 9, the casino closed its door again but only until October 23, 2020, when reopened again.

With the health situation in the region finally being under control, the casino reopened on October 23 with player capacity limited to only 25%, table games were narrowed down as well, also special health measures have been introduced in the bar and restaurant areas to further ensure the safety of the guests.

There are currently two operational brick-and-mortar casinos. The first one being the Nova Scotia Halifax Casino, which after the first lockdown first opened doors on October 5, 2020, with 20% guest capacity, significantly limited table games, food and drinks amenities were reinstated on November 12, 2020, but the casino was closed on November 26, 2020. The casino has been available for guest attendance since January 11 this year.

The other one is the Nova Scotia Sydney casino which also reopened on October 5, with a guest capacity of 20%, however, there were no table games and food and beverage consumption was suspended. Ever since then the casino remains operational with the mandatory health measures.

Currently, in the Ontario region there are no operational casinos under the corporation’s jurisdiction, after being reopened and then closed down again. Woodbine casino, Elements Casino Mohawk, Elements Casino Flamboro, Ajax Casino, Great Blue Heron Casino, Elements Casino Grand River, Elements Casino Brantford, Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, Shorelines Slots Kawartha Downs, Shorelines Casino Belleville, and Shorelines Casino Peterborough all remain under lockdown until further notice.

All Great Canadian Gaming Corporation properties on the British Columbia territory have been suspended from working ever since the start of the first lockdown on March 16, 2020, and whether or not they will reopen anytime soon remains to be seen.
